Our Editorial Standards
Every article, review and comparison on SmartBabyChoices is produced according to these editorial standards. We publish this policy publicly so our readers can hold us accountable to it.
Independence
SmartBabyChoices editorial content is 100% independent of commercial relationships. Brands cannot pay for positive coverage, request changes to reviews, or influence our scoring. The only way a product improves its position on this site is by performing better in our testing.
We earn revenue through affiliate commissions, a small fee paid by retailers when a reader clicks our link and purchases. This fee is identical regardless of which product a reader purchases, so there is no financial incentive to recommend one product over another.
We do not accept: sponsored reviews, paid placements, products in exchange for positive coverage, or payment to change or remove content. If a brand contacts us with such a request, we decline.
How We Select Products to Review
Products are selected based on market relevance, search volume, reader requests and availability across our 6 European markets. We prioritise products that:
- Are widely available in at least 3 of our 6 markets
- Have significant search interest from European parents
- Represent meaningful price tiers (budget, mid-range, premium)
- Hold valid EU safety certifications where applicable
Our Testing Methodology
Products are obtained through purchase, borrowing from parent communities, or manufacturer loan (always disclosed). Loaned products receive identical testing, the source of a product never affects our assessment.
What We Test For
- Performance against stated specifications
- Real-world usability by actual parents and babies
- Build quality and durability over extended use
- Safety compliance with EU standards (EN 71, EN 1930, CE marking, etc.)
- Value for money relative to alternatives in the market
- Availability and price across DE, FR, ES, UK, IT, BE
Our Scoring System
All products receive a score out of 5, calculated across five weighted criteria:
| Criterion | Weight | What we assess |
|---|---|---|
| Performance | 35% | Does it do what it claims to do, reliably and consistently? |
| Safety | 25% | EU certifications, materials, age-appropriateness, recall history |
| Usability | 20% | Ease of use for parents, comfort for babies, setup time |
| Value | 10% | Price relative to performance vs direct competitors |
| European availability | 10% | How widely available it is across our 6 markets |
Disclosure Requirements
Every article that contains affiliate links includes a disclosure notice at the top. Every review that includes a loaned or gifted product discloses that fact explicitly. We follow EU consumer protection guidelines on commercial endorsements.
Update Policy
All buying guides and reviews are reviewed on the following schedule:
- Pillar guides (Best-of lists): reviewed every 6 months
- Product reviews: updated when significant new firmware, product changes, or safety information emerges
- Comparison articles: updated when a comparable new product launches
- Educational content: reviewed annually
All articles display a "Last updated" date. Articles not yet updated to the current schedule are marked accordingly.
Corrections Policy
If we publish an error, factual, technical or otherwise, we correct it promptly and note the correction at the bottom of the article. We do not silently edit errors. If you believe we have published inaccurate information, please contact us at hello@smartbabychoices.com.
AI Policy
SmartBabyChoices does not publish AI-generated reviews or product descriptions. AI tools may be used for research assistance or formatting, but all final content is written, edited and approved by human writers with direct parenting experience. We believe AI-generated baby product advice is a disservice to parents making safety-relevant decisions.
